A man of great honor who stood up for the rights of people in this country was not only as a naval aviator when he served in Vietnam but also for decades after.
He championed the rights of people in:
- immigration;
- civil liberties;
- fighting against torture;
- admitting fault when he knew his decisions or votes were wrong; and,
- standing up to his own party when it was unpopular or even condemned to do so.
John McCain was a true American Hero and a man that Mr. Mathur personally admired greatly. John McCain’s loss from Congress is a loss of an important symbol of government and personal integrity. It saddens Mr. Mathur that his absence will mean there is one less person of uncompromising moral character to hold government to its humane and righteous standards.
