Unfortunately, an application for unemployment can affect extensions of status and adjustments of status. Please refer to the I-944 requirements now being implemented by the government. It is likely that the federal government will use these requirements to eliminate immigrants as the economy shrinks due to the coronavirus. This is unfortunate but all employment-based immigration does depend on economic needs of the country as a whole. Use of unemployment benefits and other welfare benefits dramatically effect admissibility. With the economy on the downturn, the government will enforce these restrictions more in our view.
