We are very grateful that you have chosen to consult with our firm. We look forward to analyzing your legal issues. We fully intend to hear your concerns about your matter as well as your goals. We will provide you with an initial outline of what we believe should be done to responsibly take care of your case. From that point, we will advise you how we charge and what we will be charging for. This being said, we do not want to advise you of a few limitations when it comes to consultations versus legal representation. Some of the items listed below that we do not cover in consultation are reserved for an in-depth review once representation begins. It is important that we do not provide evaluations out of context or without a full understanding of your matter. Hence, during a consultation, we will generally not do the following:
This policy governs the scope and terms of initial consultations between Mathur Law Offices, P.C. and prospective clients. By scheduling or participating in an initial consultation, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms:
1. Purpose of the Consultation
The purpose of the initial consultation is to allow the attorney to assess your legal matter and determine:
- Whether the attorney can accept representation in your case; and
- The terms of engagement should representation be offered.
Limitations of the Consultation
- No Document Review: The attorney will not review or analyze any documents related to your matter during the initial consultation unless and until a formal attorney-client relationship has been established.
2. No Substantive Legal Advice:
The attorney will not provide detailed legal advice, opinions, or strategies regarding your case during the consultation. Substantive legal advice is only provided after you have retained the attorney by signing a written engagement agreement and fulfilling any agreed-upon conditions, including payment of any required retainer.
3. No Attorney-Client Relationship
Participation in an initial consultation does not create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship will only be established through a written engagement agreement signed by both the attorney and the client.
4. Confidentiality
While the information you share during the initial consultation will be treated with care, the scope of confidentiality is limited by the absence of an attorney-client relationship. If the attorney determines they cannot represent you due to a conflict of interest or other reasons, they will not disclose any information shared during the consultation, consistent with ethical obligations.
5. Engagement Terms
If the attorney determines that representation is appropriate, they will outline the terms of engagement, including fees, scope of representation, and any other relevant conditions. Representation will commence only after you have signed the engagement agreement and met the agreed-upon conditions.
6. Scope of Representation
Decision If the attorney determines they cannot accept representation, they will inform you of this decision. The attorney may, at their discretion, provide general information regarding alternative resources or next steps.

At the end of the consultation, we hope that you have a better understanding of the nature of your proceedings and the path to responsibly move forward with your case. We find that there are three important stages to representation, which are: (1) the full investigation of your case; (2) the preparation of your case; and, (3) the actual execution of a plan on your matter. It is our experience that one cannot forecast a conclusion to representation without fully performing each step. We look forward to speaking with you soon!
